C. A. Geers Piano Company Factory Tour
The Soundboard Department

The soundboard is the heart and soul of a piano. When making a new soundboard great care must be taken so that it is perfect in every way and will perform with the highest quality. It takes three things to make a quality soundboard. First, the best sitka spruce that can be found. Second, careful control of the humidity content of the board. And third, human hands that possess the skill and craftsmanship to bring all the elements of a great soundboard together.

Each soundboard is made individually by hand from the finest sitka spruce that can be found. The key to making a great soundboard is the ability to control the moisture content in the wood. Above is our "dry room" where the boards are stored.
